The city, which was initially named as Trazepos, lies in a beautiful countryside between the Black Sea coast and the mountains Zigane. The city, which had lived under the reign of many civilizations throughout centuries, was taken by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror during the Ottoman Conquest. It eventually became a city of the Republic of Turkey that was founded in 1923.

The Hagia Sophia Museum

The Hagia Sophia Museum, which has remained in its original state since the 13th century, is an important cultural center that preserves the relics of the Byzantine, Seljuk and Georgian culture. The Trabzon Museum, constructed by the beginning of the 20th century, consists of two mansions that attract the attention for their artistic features.
